Patricia Velásquez
Creativity transcends films, canvas,
photos and other media. It could also serve as the catalyst to philanthropy and
charity as well as activism. Award-winning actress, a history-making supermodel
and philanthropist who is a staunch supporter, conscientious activist, author,
and loved mom Patricia Velasquez applies an eternal inventive spirit to all she
does. Whether it's appearing in blockbuster films like The Curse of La Llorona
or launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation and participating on the UNESCO Board.
She is a strong believer in intuition , and a pioneer of her own way. "I
look at my career as a lengthy staircase," she says. "I took every
step. It was truly amazing to do so, as there was a long-term effect. I simply
laid my head down and took one step at a time. And then, it was over. This is a
metaphor that evokes the first experience of forming. The woman was born in
Venezuela, but she was raised in France or Mexico. After only few years of
living, she chose to relocate to Venezuela. Her parents, who worked as
educators in South America, moved her family to a cramped apartment that was
without water and elevators. Patricia took fifteen flights of stairs up with
heavy buckets in order to supply water to the apartment. Between her studies in
engineering as well as dance training, Patricia attempted to help her family in
any way she could. Her promise to her family members, which was the most
important factor that helped her rise to the top of the fashion industry, led
to her scouted to model in Milan. She recalls that she was required to travel
to Italy to model for the fashion industry. "If I could just send thirty
dollars per month back to Venezuela that would be worthwhile because it will
provide all the water that is in the structure." Patricia's achievements
marked an important turning point in fashion as she drew attention from the
fashion world to South America for the first time. Her "first modeling gig
Karl Lagerfeld photographed" was a huge break. She continued to be featured
in fashion shows and front editorial spreads as well as in commercials for
Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Fendi. Her fame spread across the globe.
she was a part of Oprah as well as Ford Models' "Supermodel of the
World" contest , as well. She was also featured on the pages of Marie
Claire, Bazaar and Vogue.
