Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1937 - 17 August, 2015) was an American dancer and actress popular for her character in the role of Batgirl in the 1960s' television series Batman as well as her role as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969). The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer of female superheroes" on television. Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her family moved to Dallas in 1951. She was a student at W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School as well as W. H. Adamson High School. It was unfortunate that she didn't graduate because she did not receive "one PE credit". Craig was accepted into Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in the role of most junior ballerina in the company after being identified by Alexandra Danilova who is a dancer and instructor. This experience was beneficial when she did stunts acting as Batgirl. In 1957, she left the ballet troupe due to disagreements concerning casting changes. She then moved to Los Angeles with the hope to continue her career in dance. However, she discovered herself appearing in film roles. One of her first television role was on the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") in 1958 alongside Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later was the Batgirl's stepfather, police Commissioner James Gordon. Soon after her appearance in The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959) and Gidget (all 1958) she also guest-starred as Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig played with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) and in Seven Women from Hell (1961) featured alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was a guest star in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. She also appeared with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) and Seven Women from Hell (1961) and Seven Women from Hell (1961), both of which featured Cesar Romero. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It Was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (1964). In 1966, she starred in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she played a Russian ballet dancer in In Like Flint.
