Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio
Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 was an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She was a two-time Olympian. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, who won their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London, she won gold medals in floor and team events, as well as the bronze medal for the balance beam, which made her the most recognized American gymnast in the Games. She was awarded a gold team medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have back-to-back gold medals in this event. Raisman won silver medals for the all-around competition for individuals, as well as the floor exercise. Raisman also received silver medals in the individual all-around and for floor exercise. She also is two-time champion in the national championships on floor exercise (2012 and 2015), the 2012 champion of the national team on the balance beam, and a five-time medalist in the all-around section at the national championships (silver in 2016, and bronze in 2010, 2012, 2011, and the 2015 season). She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast, and Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman, who is Jewish has said that she takes a lot pride in being able not only to represent the United States of America, but also the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman began gymnastics at age eighteen months. She attributes her love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's squad that took home the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8 before she moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was directed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012 following her senior year online classes while training for the Olympics.
